Stunning snaps of hikers trekking up giant sand dunes
These are the real-life Sandmen! These intrepid hikers trekked up beautiful sand dunes that will take your breath away.
The three dunes, called Big Daddy, Big Mama and Dune 45, are a tourist pull in Namibia and explorers visit from all over the world just to climb them.
These hikers were caught on camera by photographer Julia Wimmerlin, from Switzerland, who visited the sand dunes in Namib-Naukluft National Park during a trip to Africa with her husband Jean.
Big Daddy, which stands at a dizzying 350m tall, offers breath-taking views across the African planes and Julia and Jean worked together to capture these stunning aerial shots.
Julia, 39, said: “Many people go to Africa for animal safaris, but I wanted my first encounter to include more.
“Namibia has it all – the most stunning landscapes from the desert dunes to the ocean, as well as mountains, beautiful, fascinating history and culture, and wildlife.
“I was absolutely in awe at the beauty of the place – it’s like nature is an artist.
“As the sun goes up you observe the shadows of the dune, and as the sun moves further the light patterns change and create the most surreal images I’ve ever seen – it’s just magical.”
