Stunning images appear to show mesmerising UFO arrival – but everything is not as it seems

At first glance these stunning images appear to show the arrival of a UFO – but on closer inspection it was in fact a rare natural phenomenon.

The scenes are similar to those of a UFO landing in a sci-fi film but instead the unidentified flying object has been replaced by the vividly coloured northern lights that can be seen pushing through the night sky.

The images were taken at the Kerið volcanic crater in Iceland by Sigurður William Brynjarsson, a photographer at Artic Shots.

Sigurður was leading a group of people out to photograph the northern lights when he captured the mesmerising scenes.

Sigurður said: “The lights had been slowly getting stronger throughout the night and while they were weak enough, I used the opportunity to shoot them with the Milky Way more visible in the background.

“When they got really active, I ran up to the highest point of the ridge that surrounds the crater to get an overview with the lights in the background, which was my plan all along.

“When I got there I noticed that the lights were reflecting in the lake so I ran beyond the highest point to another position to get a better reflection and that´s where I stood my ground.”
