Seeing double! Thousands of twins gather to celebrate the marvel of multiple birth at this years 40th anniversary Twinsdays festival
There was plenty of double trouble going on at the Twinsdays festival this weekend as over two thousand sets of twins descended on the world’s largest annual gathering of twins.
Twins from all over the world travelled to the fascinating festival, which spanned over three days – running from August 7th-9th.
The festival allows entry to all twins – identical, fraternal, mirror twins, triplets, quads and twins – and also their families. Members of the public can also attend with entry costing $4.
The non-profit festival, which is fittingly held in Twinsburg, Ohio, began in 1975 so the 40th anniversary meant there was even more reason to celebrate this year.
There was certainly no time for boredom as the schedule was cram-packed with activities including raffles, a 5k charity race, a twins volleyball tournament, a twins talent show, inflatable bouncing castles and even a DJ and dance area.
The popular twin competition was also held, with titles to be won including “most identical”, “least alike”, “youngest twins”, “oldest twins” and “best theme outfit”.
Some scientific research teams also attend the festival and many twins choose to participate by filling out surveys and having their photos and DNA samples taken.
Professional photographer Dustin Franz, 27, visited the festival and captured some amazing double vision photos.
He said: “I have an identical twin brother and we have gone to the festival at least half a dozen times together. This time it was different because I was there by myself. There are so many twins there that if you are one and yours is not with you, you feel out of place.
“It was so much fun to talk to other twins about their experiences growing up and what is it like having a twin. Even though I am one, I am still fascinated each time I meet another twin.
“This year was the 40th anniversary of the festival and there were over 2,045 registered sets of twins and multiples from all around the world.
“It is quite surreal to walk around and see double, and in some cases triple of quadruple, of the same person. It is such a fun and fascinating atmosphere to be around and even if you are not a twin there is plenty of actives to enjoy.”
