Sigurdur William Brynjarsson, 42, from Reykjavik, Iceland, was out chasing the northern lights when he came across the phenomenon.

The neon green northern lights can be seen dancing above a heavy rain cloud with the city lights from Keflavik lighting up the surroundings.

Suddenly a nocturnal rainbow, otherwise known as a moonbow, appeared to shine brightly after the storm had calmed.

Sigurdur, who specializes in photography tours around the island, said: “We got some really great lights that night but the full moonbow is definitely my favourite shot.

“I had seen this phenomena in a photo before where one of our customers had accidently caught one.

“I knew the conditions where right when I headed out that night.

“We had a full moon and heavy rainclouds with great gaps in between and a beautiful display of the northern lights dancing above us so it was just a matter of getting to the right place and to be on the lookout for it.

“We rushed for shelter when we got hit by heavy rain and in between we jumped out to photograph the lights and to look for our moonbow.

“We didn´t have to wait long before it appeared before us, it was very unique.”
