Photographer snaps once-in-a-lifetime shot of wasp, mid-flight, carrying fly in its grasp
A photographer has captured a once-in-a-lifetime shot, seemingly stopping time to snap a wasp carrying a fly in incredible clarity.
Karthikeyan Shanmugasundaram’s stunning photograph was shot in such a way that the details of both insects are crystal clear.
In the image, the sand wasp can be seen flying shooting the air, the paralyzed hoverfly held tightly in its grasps beneath.
The wasp, Karthikeyan said, was carrying the fly to feed its larvae.
The 33-year-old photographer shot the image in Coimbatore, India, last month.
He said: “I have always been curious about capturing and studying various insects’ actions and behavioral shots.
“When I saw this picture I knew this is one such beautiful shot to be preserved.
“Capturing the lifestyle and behavioral aspects of wildlife and insects has always been my inner most passion.
“The reason is, the majority of the people fail to realize the beauty in these, and I, as a photographer, constantly look for ways and moments which I could capture and bring them to a larger population.”
