Lucky Tourist Captures Stunning Images Of Colombian ‘Pink Sea’
A lucky tourist captured some amazing images of a ‘pink sea’ in Colombia, whose beauty conceals an unsavoury secret.
Jihan Gigi Joseph, 32, from Newport News, Virginia, filmed the bright reddish waters that made the stretch of sea look like it came out of a fairy tale.
The unusual view is actually that of Salar de Galerazamba, a salt mine close to the Colombian city of Cartagena.
The Salar de Galerazamba reopened on March 11 after a few years of inactivity, and its colourful waters are now attracting tourists from all over the world.
Jihan, a criminal justice worker, said: “The bright pink hue is actually caused by colourful salt-loving microbes which create pigmented protein to absorb the sun’ energy.
“The sea is only pink for a couple of months out of the year, from February to April
“It was definitely an amazing experience, it was so beautiful!”
