Darren said: “I grew up in the Highlands and I’ve been fascinated with the aurora from when I was very young, walking home at night and seeing these bright colours in the sky.
“From then on I’ve followed them and I even have a tattoo on my arm of the aurora.
“I’ve been to Iceland this year as well to follow the lights – it’s my passion.”

The amateur photographer caught the lights on September 25 just before the moon had risen.
He added: “It’s difficult to summarise it until you actually experience it for yourself, no words cover what it’s like standing below the lights.

“I got my first camera just over two years ago from my wife, never thinking I’d be interested in photography.
“Now it’s all I do in my spare time.
“She must wish she bought me something else because she never sees me anymore.”
