Ice jewels – Beautiful blocks look like precious minerals!

A beautiful sunrise appears to have performed an alchemist’s trick – and morphed these ice chunks into beautiful mineral rocks.

The stunning combinations of blue, purple, orange and yellow light almost turn the frozen blocks into sapphire, amber and quartz.

In some of the pictures, waves rushing past the ice form a cold white mist around the base.

The photos were taken in January at Iceland’s Vatnajokull glacier by photographer Sigurdur William Bryniarsson.

He said: “I was there running a tour to the glacier lagoon and ice caves.

“The day in general was phenomenal.

“We got to the glacier ahead of the crowds and got to enjoy and photograph the fiery sunrise in peace.

“As the day got brighter, we headed out to the Diamond Beach once again and this time to capture the waves washing over the ice.

“Some of the ice blocks are the size of cars and still the ocean tosses them around as if they were weightless.

“Although I go there on regular basis, this day sits at the top as an all-time favourite.

“If every day was like this one I would be living in paradise.”
