Having a tail of a time: Project has celebs dress up as mermaids to raise awareness for ocean preservation
These celebrities are having a TAIL of a time – thanks to a unique project that allows them to dress up as MERMAIDS.
Project Mermaids lets ocean-lovers don tails and live out their siren fantasies.
Clients can pay for a shoot that is either on land or underwater, with the images looking to raise awareness about preservation of beaches, seas and oceans.
The project – which is shot by photographers Angelina Venturella and Chiara Salomoni – started purely to raise awareness, with celebrities dressing up as sirens as part of the cause.
Stars that worked with Project Mermaids included Vanessa Hudgens and Bella Thorne.
Such was the interest the celeb images, Angelina, 29, and Chiara, 30, began to get inundated with requests from the public, asking the photographers to shoot them as mermaid too.
Since starting the project, in 2013, Angelina and Chiara estimate that they have photographed thousands of mermaids, with average shoots costing around $500, depending on whether they are on land or underwater.
With requests coming from across the globe, Project Mermaids is set to embark on a 16-city world tour – including the likes of Los Angeles, New York, London, Geneva, Copenhagen and Sydney.
A selection of the best images are going to be converted into a book and art show later this year, with 50 percent of the proceeds going to SaveOurBeach.org.
Angelina said: “Our plan is to release the book and do the art show this year, meeting amazing people across the tour.
“It’s kind of the best job in the world to travel around, meet amazing people, and make them so happy by making them mermaids.
“We’re fulfilling their fantasy and spreading our message of ocean conservation.”
