Amazing imagery shows ‘apocalyptic’ Aussie sunset storm

These sublimely-timed snaps of ominous clouds rolling over an Australian outback sunset capture a perfect storm.

With tendrils of sour pink radiating from one end of the clouds and electric blue lightning bolts striking the other, the photograph evokes an apocalyptic scene.

Perth storm chaser Jordan Cantelo journeyed to the Kimberley region of Western Australia to capture the phenomenon and posted the image to social media this week.

The 33-year-old used a weather prediction app to know where the storm was developing then raced to a lookout at Wyndham to seize the moment.

Jordan said: “This is one of the most incredible storms I’ve captured, I was like a kid in a candy store.

“Sunset is the golden hour, which is just when the storm hit, so those ballistic colours could not have come through at a better time.

“Then there were those the luminescent bolts hitting every few seconds. I knew at the time I’d gotten something special.

“The colours are untouched, I just made a few cropping and curving adjustments to give more contrast.”

Jordan, who works as a fire officer for the WA Government, set out on his journey to capture the amazing images at 3am the previous morning, driving all day to get to the remote region from his home in Perth.

The image has made spread like wildfire online, racking up thousands of likes and comments from around the world.

Jordan, who began chasing storms in 2010, said: “I’ve always had a fascination with big storms.
