These are the eerie snaps of once-grand homes left to rot.

The living room is usually the heart of the home, but these dusty old rooms are now crumbling.

With peeling wallpaper and battered old armchairs, these living rooms from across Europe show how people used to live.

The pictures were taken by urban explorer Roman, 29, who discovered the abandoned living rooms in houses, farms, villas and castles on trips around Europe.

Roman, from the Netherlands, said: “Many of these locations have been abandoned for many years – decay is kicking in, which I love to capture with my camera.

“There are holes in the floors and ceilings, dust everywhere and a lot of objects left behind – most of these places still have furniture inside, which is lovely to see.

“It’s fascinating to see real life from the past, and I’m glad I can share it through my photos.

“I like to stand in the room, in complete silence, and take a good look around me – ‘feeling’ the room and the emotions.

“It makes me curious – I like to try and figure out what happened there, so many personal things have been left behind.

“Your imagination can run wild, and it’s really intriguing to try and guess the story in these rooms.

“Sometimes I’m aware of the history of a place beforehand, which makes it more interesting.”
