CHEEKY SQUIRREL GETS STUCK


This squirrel was left going NUTS after breaking its way into a rodent-proof bird feeder and getting well and truly STUCK. The cheeky creature wriggled its way into the feeder and spent several minutes enjoying the fruits of its labour before realising it was wedged in. Panic set in for the starving squirrel which was then captured on camera wriggling around trying desperately to leave the scene of the crime.

BUTTERFLY ON CAIMAN'S NOSE


They should have been in a flap but these brave butterflies looked completely calm as they took a risky rest on the snout of a sharp-toothed caiman. The ferocious reptile was basking in the sun in the tropical wetland of Pantanal, southern Brazil, when the striking orange butterflies came to rest on its nose. Immediately irritated, the caiman tried to shake the butterflies off but they hung on tight and eventually it was forced to take to the water to wash them off.

This is one rapid reptile who has got it licked - catching lunch at impressive lightning speed. The cunning chameleon gobbled up a grasshopper in a split-second making the move extremely difficult to catch on camera. But determined snapper, Thomas Marent, managed the tricky task while exploring the Andasibe-Mantadia National Park in Eastern Madagascar. The 45-year-old from Baden in Zurich shot in high speed - taking eight images per second - to successfully capture the moment.

GENIUS BEHIND JAWS FILM DIES


These are the iconic images taken by the late Ron Taylor, who pioneered underwater filming and shot footage for the hit Spielberg movie Jaws. The shark expert died at a hospital in Sydney on Sunday (September 9) aged 78, after a battle with myeloid leukaemia. Along with his wife Valerie, Ron spent years filming great white sharks and was reportedly bitten on several occasions himself. The couple dedicated their lives to persuading people that sharks were worthy of respect.

This is the dramatic moment a pod of gigantic whales dwarfed a boat as they hunted in perfect unison. The synchronised swimmers had a whale of a time as they were snapped in the waters of Frederick Sound in the north east Pacific Ocean, near Alaska. Pictured using a remarkable hunting technique known as bubble-net feeding, the 35-tonne beasts cleverly blow air at depths of 600ft creating a bubble net and trapping their prey near the surface.

Prairie dogs might be known for their public displays of affection but as this series of charming pictures show, love isn't always easy even in the animal kingdom. This unlucky-in-love creature was spotted trying to woo his girl, inching closer and closer before swooping in for a kiss. But the romantic gesture ended badly with a rather awkward peck on the cheek and an unimpressed look from his lover.

his is the funny moment some herons appear to find themselves in a flap after discovering the 'rocks' they are perched on are in fact three tonne hippos. The feathered friends found their perfect perches in the form of some unsuspecting hippos using them as the ideal platform to preen and hunt. And while some people might call them bird brains, professional photographer Thomas Dressler, who shot the images, said the herons were actually clever creatures.

FOX IN BLUEBELLS


These stunning images of a fox playing in thousands of Bluebells show the beauty of British springtime at its very best. The striking scenes were captured by wildlife photographer, Brian Bevan, near his home in Potton, Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. The 61-year-old rescued the orphaned vixen almost a year ago after her mother was hit by a car and killed. Now the fox, called Anuska, loves nothing more than going for a stroll, giving art teacher Brian some perfect picture opportunities.
